E3S EuroSense Student Awards 2024 – Iryna Ruda
I am deeply grateful to the European Sensory Society (E3S) for awarding me one of the E3S EuroSense Student Awards, which allowed me to experience Eurosense 2024 in Dublin!
This year's theme, "A Sense of Global Culture," was perfectly embodied by the event. It was inspiring to witness brilliant researchers from all over the world working together to address the challenge of creating a more sustainable food future, without compromising on the core aspect—sensory perception—while acknowledging cross-cultural nuances.
Coming from a clinical and academic environment, I found the synergy between sensory consumer research and the fundamentals of sensory science and psychology highly enlightening. The conference program highlighted this blend beautifully. I especially appreciated the number of talks and sessions focused on sensory perception in sickness and health, as well as those that gave attention to neophobia.
I was fortunate to present my PhD research on how weight status and gender influence distraction-induced effects on chemosensory perception, which led to engaging and thought-provoking conversations.
As my first in-person conference, Eurosense set a high standard. The event was an incredible success—from the professional and welcoming organization and outstanding keynote speakers to the collaborative, inspiring atmosphere from early morning workshops to late-night dance moves.
With great gratitude and a wonderful aftertaste, I am already looking forward to Eurosense 2026 in Norway!
