Report from EuroSense 2024

E3S EuroSense Student Awards 2024Angelica Lippi

My personal experience this year at Eurosense 2024 was truly unique, and I would like to express my gratitude to the E3S for making this conference so special by awarding me the E3S Student Award for my project, “Insights on sensory alterations in cancer patients: exploring personality traits, food attitudes and sensory-hedonic responses to food.”

Eurosense 2024 was held in the vibrant, lively and welcoming heart of Ireland: Dublin. The charm of this incredible place was evident from the welcome ceremony, where music and friendly people accompanied us throughout the afternoon.

Eurosense 2024 focused on “A Sense of Global Culture,” and I was amazed at how so many diverse scientists from around the world contributed to scientific progress by sharing their research with the global community. I firmly believe that doing science is not just about working in the lab or collecting data, but also about sharing results and ideas with the broader community to help research grow and to push the boundaries of science toward limitless possibilities.

This is exactly what Eurosense 2024 embodied: breaking limits, sharing knowledge and opening ourselves to the world of sensory sciences.

A variety of topics enriched the conference, ranging from cross-cultural differences in perception to sensory science in health, sensory science in non-food products and a focus on food waste. A significant portion was dedicated to methodological aspects, offering valuable insights into new methods and applications.

At Eurosense 2024, I truly experienced the versatility of sensory science. I learned about its countless applications across various fields and the many solutions this area of science can offer in critical contexts such as sustainability, food waste and more.

I also had the opportunity to meet so many people in person, from young researchers like me to renowned scientists, making it a truly special experience. Meeting researchers whose work you've read so much about feels like meeting your superheroes. For that, I am incredibly grateful to Eurosense for this opportunity.

It was a great honor for me to be part of such a large conference, presenting the results of my project on cancer patients, a topic very close to my heart. I had the opportunity to step onto the stage for the first time in front of a large audience, and for that, I am also thankful to Eurosense for teaching me to be brave and helping me take my first steps toward becoming a confident speaker.

Looking forward to the next conference!
